This can cause the development of sebaceous or follicular cysts in dogs, both of which may cause blockage in the hair follicles. Another common cause of yeast infections is excessive dampness, which of course can be prevented simply by keeping your dog dry as much as possible. You should also make sure that the dog’s bedding is clean and free from excess moisture.

Other cases of yeast infections can be caused by old age, other underlying health issues or even just poor diet.

The first step in treating a yeast infection in your dog is diet modification. In mild cases, switching your dog over to premium dog food or even raw food should be enough to clear up the condition. This may also cause general improvement in your dog’s overall health.

You may also notice some improvement with the use of special shampoos and antibiotics. Keep in mind however that such remedies often provide only temporary relief, and the underlying causes of the condition will have to be addressed if you hope to have the yeast infection clear up for good.
